Jacob lands Easy Runner/Bristol Post prize

JACOB Spence was thrilled when he learned that he had won the Easy Runner/adidas athlete of the month competition supported by the Bristol Post for August.
The 14-year-old Yate & District AC athlete was certainly an outstanding candidate after winning a superb silver in the junior boys’ 80m hurdles at the English Schools’ Championships in a time of 11.28secs, his second fastest ever after setting a PB of 11.21secs in the heats, the quickest time by an under 15 this summer to put him top of the UK Rankings.
He has since followed that up with another silver in the England Championships and having now joined the illustrious list of competition winners it has been a season to remember.

BRISTOL & West Athletic Club will join forces once again with Bristol City Council to bring the Street Sprints and Road Miles to College Green between the Council House and the Cathedral on Saturday 29th September 2012 - the day prior to the Bristol half marathon. Wylie smashes Arlingham course record

BRISTOL & West AC’s Phil Wylie had a smashing Bank Holiday Monday as he shattered the course record to win the Arlingham Village 4.4 miles road race in Gloucestershire.
The international duathlete showed he has recovered from recent illness as he defeated four-times winner and former course record holder Dave Roper of Cheltenham, surging clear at halfway of the flat, fast course on the bans of the River Severn to win in a time of 21mins 26secs. That carved 30 seconds off the previous record while runner-up Roper was also inside his own former best with 21:49.

A Leader in Running Fitness course at St. John’s School Marlborough on Saturday 27th October 2012
A Coach in Running Fitness Course at Yate Outdoor Sports Centre on 6th/7th October 2012 (plus two days to be notified)
An Athletics Coach Course at Yate Outdoor Sports Centre on 13th/14th October (plus two days to be notified)
An Assistant Coaches Course at South Gloucestershire and Stroud College on 27th/28th October 2012.

Southville Runners impress in Pewsey half marathon

CHARLES Le Bek of Southville Runners finished 10th overall and second veteran over 50 in the 23rd Pewsey Vale half marathon Sunday, clocking a time of 1hr 24mins 28secs. Bitton Road Runners’ Ian Hoare was 16th (1:25.30).
In the women’s race Southville’s Nicky Russell finished third and first veteran over 35placing 33rd overall in the race from 231 finishers in a time of 1:29.52.

Veteran Godden battles to third in Sedgemoor 10k

JIM Godden of Thornbury Running Club was third veteran over 50 (38:47) in the Battle of Sedgemoor 10k road race of Sunday. Overall winner was former Bristol & West AC runner Kevin Heywood in a swift 30:23 that left him almost two minutes clear of Mark Jenkin.

Young is beaten into second place

KIERAN Young of Bristol & West AC finished runner-up (27mins 54secs) in the Baltonsborough 5 miles road race yesterday. The race was won by Wells junior Matthew Dickinson (26:42).

Oldbury 10 hosts Avon Championships again

A reminder that the Avon Championships will be incorporated once again into the Oldbury Power Station 10 miles road race on Sunday September 16th.
This ‘PB’ course is a fast, flat, accurately measured figure-of-eight on quiet country roads and lanes and chip timing will be used to ensure complete accuracy.
“This year we will also be allowing entries on the day but please get there early,” said a spokesman from Thornbury Running Club, who organise the popular event.
“For those looking to do the Bristol half this is an ideal work out just two weeks before your big day.”

Antell is second in Torbay Regatta 10k

BRISTOL & West AC’s Shaun Antell finished runner-up in the Torbay Regatta 10k road race on Sunday clocking a time of 31mins 46secs.
The race was won by Plymouth-based runner Jonny Gilby, whose club is Derby AC, in a time of 31mins 23secs.Anne Luke of Tamar Trotters was leading woman in 19th place overall (38:35) from the 482 finishers.
