Easy victory for swift Davies in Bridge Inn 5k

Wednesday, November 30th, 2011

STEVE Davies ran the second fastest time in the Easy Runner sponsored Bridge Inn 5k last night. The Belgrave Harrier, who is based in Wales, clocked a swift 14mins 54secs to equal the time already held by Bristol & West AC’s Michael Johnson.
Only Martin Cox has ever run quicker in the winter series with 14:38 though the actual course record, believed to be 14:20, is held by former British international Rob Whalley and was set in the summer series.
Davies finished well clear of Bristol University Cross-Country Captain and Bristol & West club member Chris Dodd, who shaved another 12 seconds off his PB with a 15:13 clocking. Third was Joe Dalgleish (Stroud and UWE) in 15:29.
First under 17 in seventh place was Zak Tobias in 15:37 and first vet was Mike Jacobs in 17:00.
The women’s race was won by Katie Beecher from Les Croupiers in 18:56, 20 seconds clear of new club member Diana Kennedy in a course PB of 19:16. Third and first veteran was Bridge Inn regular Aileen Brown of GWR in 20:17.
A reminder that there is no Bridge Inn in December and the next race in the current 2011-2012 Winter Series will be on Tuesday 31 January 2012.

“There will be some very good girls at Liverpool but I am going there to try and win it,” said Gummow. “I don’t think I’ll be happy if I don’t win the trials. I am going there with that aim and my preparations have been very good and I have been training very hard.

STEPH Barnes will be looking to continue her good autumn in Liverpool tomorrow. Sixth in Bristol the Bristol & West AC runner won’t be expecting another top ten finish in what promises to be the most competitive race of the season because with no World Cross Country Championships in 2012 the Europeans is now the big winter target for all our best distance runners.
